The Collaborative Needle Robot

We developed a system where
•    Smart needles are used to image the tissue and sense forces at the needle tip
•    Physician performs insertion in collaboration with the robot
•    The robot performs force-feedback of information at the needle tip making them sensible and palpable
"We put the physician's finger at the needle tip"

The Institute of Medical Technology and Intelligent Systems formed one of the five final teams worldwide for the KUKA Innovation Award 2020. We recieved the KUKA LBR Med lightweight robot and created a versatile solution for robotic needle insertion.
